  1. Access

    In the context of security, the access is the permission to use computer data or resources. For instance, a user may be allowed read access to a file, but will not be allowed to edit or delete it.
    It is an important concept in maintaining security in computer systems. It restricts the use and distribution of information, settings and the general use of a system.

  1. Accessory

    A device that is distributed separately but intended to be attached to or used in conjunction with another device, called the "parent device".

  1. Accountable Care Organization (ACO)

    Group of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, together to treat an individual patient across care settings - including doctors' offices, hospitals and long-term care facilities.

  1. Agile software development

    A group of software development methods based on iterative and incremental development, in which requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration. It promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development and delivery, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change. This strategy minimizes overall risk and allows a project to adapt to changes quickly.

  1. Ambulatory Medical Record (AMR)

    A file of a patient's outpatient medical records that is stored electronically, and includes surgeries and care that do not involve being admitted to the hospital. These files are stored in Ambulatory Medical Record Systems, to be accessed by doctors and other medical professionals.

    Linux based operating system for touchscreen mobile device, smartphone and tablet computer, which is backed by Google and the other members of the Open Handset Alliance. It is characterized by its open source nature.

  1. Application Service Provider (ASP)

    Organisation that provides remote use of application programmes. The application programmes may provide any kind of data processing or information processing, for example electronic voting or access counting for Web pages.
    In general, remote use of programmes requires payment of a fee.

    A method of verifying the identity of a person sending or receiving information using passwords, keys and other automated identifiers.

  1. Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC)

    The various methods used to automatically identify an object, collect data about that object and then automatically enter the collected data into a computer system. Examples of current AIDC technologies include bar codes, smart cards, magnetic strips, optical character recognition, radio frequency identification and various biometric applications.
